Development of a Custom Reusable Packaging Solution: A Collaboration Between Loopipak and Luisterpuntbibliotheek

Developing a reusable packaging solution doesn't happen overnight. With the Luisterpuntbibliotheek, we took the time necessary to develop shipping crates that were perfectly suited to their needs. It took five months from initial discussions to final delivery: understanding the logistical challenges, custom design, testing, fine-tuning, responsible manufacturing and setting up a dedicated workshop. An iterative process that proves sustainable innovation takes time, but guarantees an effective, long-lasting solution.

October - Aligning demand with shared values

In October 2024, Luisterpuntbibliotheek reached out to Loopipak to explore a reusable packaging solution tailored to its specific needs. As a library specializing in the accessibility of audiobooks, it sought to optimize its logistics system while reducing its environmental footprint.

Loopipak, a committed player in the circular economy, immediately recognized the potential for collaboration. This request aligned perfectly with its mission: to offer sustainable and functional solutions to replace single-use packaging.

From Idea to Prototype

An in-depth discussion with Luisterpuntbibliotheek allowed for an analysis of its logistics flow, identification of operational constraints, and comparison of existing options.

To ensure the solution was effective, Loopipak designed two prototypes using repurposed advertising tarpaulin. The goal was to assess their durability, practicality, and integration into the client’s logistics flow. However, neither fully met the library’s specific requirements. A custom solution was then considered. In such a process, feedback is invaluable.

Building on these tests, Loopipak fine-tuned the final details and completed its offer. A final quote was proposed, and after some discussions, Luisterpuntbibliotheek gave the green light. The only step left was to launch production.

A Manufacturing Challenge

For the production of these transport boxes, Loopipak chose to collaborate with ETA NEKTARI, a workshop that provides employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

However, this also required an adaptation phase: the workshop had to be prepared, processes adjusted, and raw materials delivered. It was a meticulous job that required time and coordination.

A strong synergy between social inclusion and sustainability is one of Loopipak’s core pillars.

From Concept to Reality

In January 2025, production finally begins. Each box is carefully manufactured, tested, and then set aside, awaiting delivery. The project, which had started five months earlier with a simple conversation, is now taking tangible form.

At the end of February, the first boxes leave the workshop and arrive at Luisterpuntbibliotheek. The team enthusiastically discovers their new reusable packaging. The cycle comes full circle, but a new journey begins—one of sustainable packaging, designed to last and reduce waste.

Innovation, Collaboration, and Impact

This project, born from a simple need, is a perfect illustration of organic innovation. No rush, no ready-made solution—just an iterative process where each step refined, adjusted, and created a perfectly tailored product, all while adhering to a responsible manufacturing approach.

Today, thanks to this collaboration, Luisterpuntbibliotheek can ship its audiobooks in packaging that respects both the books it carries and the planet, while contributing to a circular economy and a reduced environmental impact. And for Loopipak, this project is yet another example of how every well-thought-out solution can help build a more sustainable, zero-waste world.
